Plastic Boxes and Picnic Plates

Plastic is an amazing substance. Over the years, many things have been converted to plastic, including bottles, bags, and food packages. Why the change? Well, it is cheaper. Some may think that having our world slowly become plastic may be a bad thing, but don’t think too fast. Plastic is recyclable. A plastic soda bottle can be recycled and made into a toy. Plastic boxes sitting in your garage, that are filled with useless old junk, or holiday decoration that never see the light of day, can be recycled and made into things that people need and use in their everyday life.
People may not realize how much plastic is present in the world today. The family who goes for a picnic and places picnic plates out on a checkered tablecloth, that covers the meadow on a spring day, can, after that picnic, instead of throwing those plates away, recycle them. Those flimsy plates could turn into a plastic necklace for a little girl who dreams of being a princess, having great adventures and marrying a prince. Plastic plates could turn into diecast display cases for a baseball enthusiast who wants to display his childhood collection of baseball cards. But people don’t really think about these things.
Recycling is an inconvenience. It’s so much easier to just dump something in a trash bag and forget about it. Of course we all know that we should recycle, for the sake of the earth, but sometimes its just not enough for us. So instead of the earth, think about other people, who could use that, plastic you’re throwing away much more than the garbage can.
